Noun (명사) 에

친구가 한국에 와요.
My friend is coming to Korea.

동생이 대학교에 다녀요.
My little brother goes to school.

다음 달에 고향에 돌아가요.
I go back to my hometown next month.

 

** Grammar Focus

1. 에 is used mainly with the verbs 가다 (to go), 오다 (to come), 다니다 (to attend/commute), 돌아가다 (to return),  도착하다 (to arrive), 올라가다 (to go up), and 내려가다 (to go down).
It expresses the direction in which a particular behavior proceeds.
It corresponds to 'to' in English.

* Noun + 에 가다/오다

매일 회사에 가요.
우리 집에 오세요.
교회에 다녀요.

2. 에 is also used with 있다 and 없다 to express the location of a person or thing.
It corresponds to 'in' or 'on' in English. (See also Getting Ready 02 있다 (to be))

소파 위에 강아지가 있어요.
The dog is on the sofa.
지금 집에 어머니와 동생이 있어요.
Right now my mother and littel brother/sister are in the house.

어디에 가요?
Where are you going?
백화점에 가요.
I'm going to the department store.

요코 씨가 생일 파티에 와요?
Is Yoko coming to the birthday party?
아니요, 안 와요.
No, she isn't coming.

오늘 오후에 뭐해요?

서점에 가요.
I'm going to the bookstore.
